Mother Theresa told in one of her speech that the greatest poverty any rich country is suffering from is the feeling on unwantedness or being uncared for! Even the poorest of the people are happier than the people in jail waiting for someone s arrival to atleast visit them.

In an era of discs and pubs who has the time to think about the pathetic situation of women prisoners in India? The saddest part is that most of the women end up in jail in an act of defending themselves from an drunk husband or a rapist . Hundreds of ailing women are kept illegelly in jails. Why is this happening even though women constitute about half the poplulation , eventhough they are productive members of the society ? Nobody is going to accept them once they are released and try to get back their social life , they are banned from their families, societies, and eventually from everything !!Often, women preferred to stay in prison even after they were released because of social ostracism..Imagine a child 's trauma when she/he loses its mother. Can anyone else substitute for that ?
I saw a movie named " provoked" recently in which our very famous Aishwarya Rai burns her husband and there is a dialogue which a woman activist says that a woman doesnt burn her husband when the charcoal gets over !
I know many women who are more intelligent and smarter than their husband but cannot exhibit it due to the mindset of the society. The following is a piece from a newspaper report
"The female inmates claim that the prison conditions are dire and they claim that they are sexually abused, but the prison authorities have denied these allegations categorically. Some eleven women and two children, held in this prison, have to live in cold cells during these winter months. But they say they want to change their living conditions in the prisons."
Another prisoner "We are prisoners and all kinds of cruelty is committed against us, and there is no one to turn to."
It said most women prisoners live in overcrowded, unsanitary conditions and often rear their children in jail. What more does a child need to become mentally unstable than to see its mother being harassed daily .
Only when high profile persons like Monica Bedi, Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan, etc goes to jail we would probably be interested in it. But why dont we consider ourselves if we get trapped by a racket or an accident
